How Long Will My Commercial Pool Renovation Take?

Posted on: November 23rd, 2020 by

At Allen Pool Service, we have been performing both private and commercial pool renovations for more than 40 years (see some of our projects here). That lets us tell you with confidence and certainty how long your pool renovation will take: it depends.

Unfortunately, that’s the honest truth. Until we actually look at your pool, we can’t know for sure how long it will take to perform your commercial pool renovation. At that point, we will be able to give you a detailed estimate that will include reliable figures for both the cost and time necessary to complete the renovation.

That being said, we can talk about the factors that contribute to the length of your renovation process.

How Extensive Is the Renovation?

Most importantly, the length of your renovation will depend on how much you’re looking to change. If, for example, you’re just looking to resurface your pool, we might be able to complete the process in as little as 5-7 days, though it can sometimes take longer depending on weather and other factors.

If, on the other hand, you are looking to change the shape or size of your pool, it will likely take longer than that just to complete demolition work on the old pool. In addition, the extensive planning and reconstruction work on the new pool will often take a considerable amount of time depending on the scope of the job.

How Clear Is Your Vision?

One of the big variables in any commercial pool renovation is planning. If you have a good idea of what you are looking for, including some basic sketches that you’ve approved and we can work from, planning your new pool might take as little as a week. If you’ve already made plans that have been approved by you and the Atlanta city government, we can start work right away.

However, we’ve found that this is rarely the case. More often, we spend at least a week going over designs with you before we can start detailed planning, which means that planning can take three weeks or more.

That’s assuming that your organization is efficient and organized. If your team is unresponsive or has internal divisions that keep you from agreeing on a pool design, this part of the process can stretch on for months.

How Old Is Your Current Pool?

Commercial pools have a wide range of lifespans. Well-built pools last for decades and are more likely renovated because of changing styles or preferences than because they need to be redone.

However, no matter how well a pool was built, some factors will multiply with age. For example, building codes change, and the older your pool is, the more updating we might need to do to the design and equipment of the pool.

Also, the older a pool is, the more likely demolition will reveal surprises we weren’t counting on. These surprises can add weeks to the timetable and may add to the cost of the project. The good news is: with our decades of experience, we have learned to expect the unexpected. We can usually look at your project and give you a range of scenarios you might be looking at.

Summary: How Long Will Your Commercial Pool Renovation Take?

Although we can’t say for sure without looking at your project, we can at least lay out some possible timelines. Here’s an example timeline with averages and extremes.

As you can see, there is considerable range in the length of a project. During your consultation, we will be able to give you a better idea about the length of time to expect.
